LG-Weather Widget Plugin For WordPress Released!

LG Weather Widget Plugin for WordPress is my first WordPress Plugin release. It is a beta version currently but fully functional.  The widget currently has one theme called blue inspired by ITIC weather widget plugin a bare bone theme also exists with all the id and class tags so you can use it as a template to generate your own theme. The Widget will require an API Key from World Weather Online to function since it is built on their Weather API. The configuration is simple and really needs no explaining to implement. I hope you all enjoy this widget and feel free to contact me or comment on it, I welcome your feedback on its performance and hope you will make suggestions on improving the widget. Also if you decide to make your own theme style sheet please email me a copy so I can add it to future releases of this widget. you will receive credit for any code you contribute to this widgets development.

Update: Recently I was made aware that the plugin was broken this is due to the fact worldweather.com has changed their API url so here is version 1.2. It is still a work in progress as i have very little time these day to any free plugin development but i will be finishing this plugin until then version 1.2 will function like its predecessor only diffrence is some modification to the API call.

Enjoy!

You can Download the Plugin here! Also if you like this Plugin please make a donation.

How to Run Linux on the DT166 Embedded Thin client

Hi Everyone, Its been a while since I have posted, sorry about that but been real busy, trying to make ends meet. Anyway I have an exciting tut for you today. I recently acquired a few WebDT 166 Thin Clients that came loaded with Windows CE, now I have nothing against Microsoft its just that I like open source and Microsoft isn’t into open source. Now I found my self in need of a little workstation that didn’t eat a lot of power and could give me the basic tools needed to manage my Linux servers. The WebDT was perfect for the job its small low power and I could mount it on the back of an LCD display and forget about it.

One problem however the WebDT I had had crappy Windows CE on it  “Damn!” Not to worry after taking the box apart and trying to flash the memory luck had it it could boot from its USB port. However trying to do this with the Flash Module installed proved to be a problem. Read more of this post

Setting up Software RAID on Ubuntu Server 8.10–10.10

Hi everyone, today we will look at installing Software Raid on Linux Ubuntu Server 10.04 lucid. Personally this is my favorite release of Ubuntu server, even thought there are newer versions this one boots faster than any flavor i have tried. So far it runs like a charm I haven’t had any issue with it thus far.

Today’s tutorial we will be setting up Software RAID on an IBM xSeries eServer 205 it has three SCSI Drives each 18.9 GB, however I have found the raid controller doesn’t play too nicely with this Ubuntu install so I will be setting up Software RAID and creating a RAID1 Mirror. The install is pretty simple and straight forward so you shouldn’t have any trouble doing this, so lets get started!

Installing ddclient on Linux Ubuntu Server 8.10 intrepid

Hello Everyone, it’s been a while posting anything been very bus, however I have been working on a few tuts I plan to share very soon. Today’s tut is a Linux Ubuntu Server tut, as you guessed I love Linux, just cant get enough of Linux Ubuntu anyway my endeavor to save a buck has recently forced me to start moving some of my older sites onto a local server this has prompted me to build a server and actually get it up to scratch security wise. In the coming weeks I will be posting tuts on how to do this, this includes setting up virtual hosts and configuring them to accept http requests using a dyndns host name. I will also show you how to set up a domain name and get it pointing to your Linux Ubuntu home based server.

This will be the first installment in the build process of setting up your server.  We will begin by setting up a Dyndns Account at Dyndns.com

How to link to mp3′s

Andrew Commented on linking Mp3 files and playing them on a website, example WordPress .com. Andrew posed a very interesting question one that I failed to look into when I was checking out these free file hosting sites. So I decided to test this capability using the Free file hosting sites I wrote about in my last post, what I have learned is that all the sites except FileDen.com allows file hotlinking. With this feature you can directly pull image files and in this case mp3, flv, and whatever tickles your fancy from your account at fileDen.com. Here’s how to embed an mp3 using a fileDen account.

Best Free file hosting sites

Recently I have had three clients who were just as tight on the penny as I am and opted for a wordpress blog on wordpress.com. I made a few bucks setting up the site and one request I had from all three was file sharing. This prompted me to go hunting for free file hosting sites and have found six that has some relatively simple features such as upload and generate a url to your file. Others offered embed code and Ajax driven web 2.o interfaces which I found quite nice. I hope all those reading will find this useful and if you know of any other free file hosting sites worth mentioning please let me know.

Here is a list of some great file hosting sites that make uploading and sharing files a walk in the park.

5 Useful WordPress Functions

Deep within the source code of WordPress lies an endless list of useful functions just waiting for you to use them in your theme or plugin. The problem is, most people don’t know they exist, probably because the Codex is ridiculously underdeveloped, and most people hate looking through source code. Luckily for you, reading the WordPress source code is a hobby of mine.
